Electrification for the UK – A Disaster in Waiting

Innogy Charges New Electric Car Fleet Using Ethereum

In a bold Big Green move, the UK government is requiring full electrification of ALL road vehicles by 2040.

Motoring organisations including the AA have expressed warnings and strong skepticism that to follow through on this plan would place too much strain on the National Grid.

The National Grid estimates that most electric cars will require a battery capacity of 90 kilowatt hours(kWh) to make journeys of around 300 miles. The present TESLA battery capacity is rated at 70KWh.

Philip Foster cites as a base calculation Drax power station which uses about 0.31 kilograms of coal per KWh generated (www.euronuclear.org/info/encyclopedia/f/fuelcomparison.htm).

Fast charging is only 50{154653b9ea5f83bbbf00f55de12e21cba2da5b4b158a426ee0e27ae0c1b44117} efficient so a single charge will require 140KWh of electricity for a single charge, giving about 43 kilograms of coal for one charge(0.31×140).

Using a higher capacity battery as suggested by the National Grid of 90KWh would mean an even higher coal usage of 55.8 kilograms of coal for a single charge.. A petrol car would require about 20 kilograms of petrol for the same
distance.

So an electric car will release double the amount of CO2 of that of a petrol car.

Also the loss to the treasury of ending petrol car use is estimated to be £28 billion! (Edmund King President AA. Times Report 28 October 2017)

Economics: Wall Street Journal Article. Larry Hamlin 27 August 2017 Larry Hamlin in a excellent article has exposed the politically driven crusade pushing EV s as the answer to making further car industry meaningless CO2 emissions reductions in support of climate alarmist idiocy. This is a follow on from the dieselgate scandal where diesel engine vehicles were falsely portrayed and promoted as environmentally superior to internal combustion powered vehicles.

The result of this German disaster supported by the Brown Labour government was to make the air in european cities dangerous to breathe thanks to diesel particulates and nitrogen oxides. (Should German and
British politicians of the time be prosecuted?__Ed).

Many think they should. Thousands are dying prematurely as a result from nitrous oxides and particulates in the air in GB cities. Der Spiegel as WSJ notes has spent the summer months condemning VW, BMW, Audi Mercedes and Porsche as uncompetitive.

If they are uncompetitive how come sales are booming? Anything to take the heat off the global warming fanatics in Bonn and London. As  the dieselgate disaster ends the new EVs disaster is just starting! Anything for the global

warming politicians to pretend to be doing something about global warming, their fake climate show. Can these fanatics please just go away!

Full electrification: A quick calculation by Philip Foster MA(Nat Sci):

Taking the Drax power station in Yorkshire of 4 GW= 4 ,000,000 kilowatts

17 million gas using households @ 30kW (to replace gas boiler) plus 17 million chargers for electric cars@8kW (assuming one car her house).

TOTAL 38kW so peak demand 38kw x 17,000,000= 646,000,000kW.

One Drax is 4,000,000kW so 646/4 = 160 Drax sized power stations needed!

ELECTRIC CAR EVACUATION
(August 11, 2017) Musk’s genius is primarily in the subsidy-seeking realm. By 2015, U.S. governments alone had given his companies US$5 billion through direct grants, tax breaks, cut-rate loans, tax credits and rebates.

This article, by Lawrence Solomon, first appeared in the National Post.

Lawrence Solomon: How Tesla’s Elon Musk became the master of fake business

The fastest-growing industries over the last two decades have been in fake industries, those that thrive despite having few customers willing to buy their products except at fire-sale prices.

The fake industries all have the same angel investors — governments — and the same promoter touting their wares — again governments.

These fake industries, the brainchild of subsidy entrepreneurs, also tend to be
dazzlers, the better to wow their politician backers and the stock market speculators betting on cash flows of government subsidies.

Today’s fake-industry leader is Tesla, the electric car developed by subsidy entrepreneur Elon Musk (pictured above), who also heads SolarCity and SpaceX, other government darlings. Musk’s genius is primarily in the subsidy-seeking realm — by 2015, U.S. governments alone had given his companies US$5 billion through direct grants, tax breaks, cut-rate loans, cashable environmental
credits, tax credits and rebates to buyers of his products. Counting subsidies from Canada and Europe, the government bankroll could be double that. Counting indirect subsidies — such as electric-vehicle-friendly infrastructure — the subsidies soar ever higher.

Speculators who bet on Musk’s ability to continue to get government backing have been well rewarded — Tesla’s stock value has skyrocketed, so much so that its market valuation topped that of BMW this year. Tesla stock is now valued at US$801,000 per car sold in 2016, compared to $26,000 per BMW sold and $5,000 per GM car sold.

The fake industry leader is Tesla

The government’s crazy policies do not end with the all electric. In a similar time frame it is also government policy to stop the supply of natural gas to homes for heating purposes. No one seems to have told the government about the extra electricity generating capacity is required to allow the substitution of petrol, diesel and NG to take place. Perhaps the question should be how many (in equivalent terms) Drax sized power stations are required and when should building of such stations start (some clues: the answer is rather large and the start time was many years ago).
