Carbon Dioxide is a Cooling Gas According to NASA

“Climate change can seem like a distant problem, a speck on the horizon. It’s not. It’s a present and deadly reality.”

These words were recently printed by the Huffington Post.

“Common sense dictates that the economy undergo a massive restructuring away from fossil fuels to save lives. And a growing body of research shows that the only way to avoid catastrophic levels of climate change is to cease production of vast amounts of “unburnable” carbon.”

The only problem with this is that it is based on the assumption that carbon is a warming gas that is heating the planet. Every Democrat would bet their political lives on this. Unfortunately for them, and all the rest of us, is we are living on a cooling world not a warming one. They get it wrong on all points of the compass when it comes to climate change even with CO2 being a warming gas when the truth is that it helps cool the stratosphere by helping reradiate solar energy back into space.

NASA says that CO2 is a coolant not a warming gas. One part of NASA is now in conflict with its climatologists after new NASA measurements prove that carbon dioxide acts as a coolant in Earth’s atmosphere. NASA’s Langley Research Center has collated data proving that “greenhouse gases” actually block up to 95 percent of harmful solar rays from reaching our planet, thus reducing the heating impact of the sun. Carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitric oxide (NO) are two substances playing a key role in the energy balance of air above our planet’s surface tending to cool not heat.

Regardless of what one believes or all the myriad factors, “Solar activity has overpowered any effect that CO2 has had,” reports Dr. R. Timothy Patterson. World temperatures have been generally declining for about 10 years while CO2 is rising rapidly,” writes famous weatherman Piers Corybyn, who is an astrophysicist.

“Carbon dioxide does not drive climate,” says Piers flatly. “The idea CO2 controls climate, and that man’s CO2 particularly, controls climate, is actually delusional nonsense.” “There is no evidence for this in real data. Temperature changes in the oceans, in the long run, drive carbon dioxide levels, so they tend to move together.”

Prof. Don J. Easterbrook said, “Global warming (i.e, the warming since 1977) is over. The minute increase of anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere (0.008%) was not the cause of the warming—it was a continuation of natural cycles that occurred over the past 500 years. The PDO cool mode has replaced the warm mode in the Pacific Ocean, virtually assuring us of about 30 years of global cooling, perhaps much deeper than the global cooling from about 1945 to 1977. Just how much cooler the global climate will be during this cool cycle is uncertain. Recent solar changes suggest that it could be fairly severe, perhaps more like the 1880 to 1915 cool cycle than the more moderate 1945-1977 cool cycles. A more drastic cooling, similar to that during the Dalton and Maunder minimums, could plunge the Earth into another Little Ice Age, but only time will tell if that is likely.”

Dr. Willie Soon, astrophysicist and geoscientist at the Solar and Stellar Physics Division of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics said, “Saying the climate system is completely dominated by how much carbon dioxide we have in the system is crazy – completely wrong. Carbon dioxide is not the major driver for the earth/climate system. Temperatures are going down, but CO2 levels are still going up. It’s close to being insane to try to keep insisting these changes in carbon dioxide are going to create all of the disasters that politicians and doomsayers are trying to tell us. Climate is totally, completely dependent on what the sun is doing to the system. The sun is the major driver of the earth climate system.”

“Saying the climate system is completely dominated by how much carbon dioxide we have in the system is crazy – completely wrong,” says Dr. Willie Soon, astrophysicist and geoscientist at the Solar and Stellar Physics Division of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. He is also an astronomer at the Mount Wilson Observatory. Dr. Soon says, “Carbon dioxide is not the major driver for the earth/climate system. Now temperatures are going down, but CO2 levels are still going up. It’s close to being insane to try to keep insisting these changes in carbon dioxide are going to create all of the disasters.  They say, “no matter what the sun does, it is not important.”

Carbon dioxide is NOT a pollutant. It is NOT harmful to life on earth. CO2 is a truly wondrous chemical substance absolutely essential for life. It is the Yin to the Yang of oxygen. Of all the thousands of pollutants we put in the air, CO2 is the least dangerous to our health and to our civilization. “It’s close to being insane to try to keep insisting these changes in carbon dioxide are going to create all of the disasters that politicians and doomsayers are trying to tell us. Climate is totally, completely dependent on what the sun is doing to the system. The sun is the major driver of the earth climate system,” adds Dr. Willie Soon.

US having coldest year on record-2014

“The most widespread heat occurred in 1931, when more than 98% of stations were over 90 degrees.” The percentage of US HCN stations to reach 90 degrees was the smallest on record this year, with four of the five coolest years occurring above 350 PPM CO2.

Climate models have grossly underestimated the power of our plants because they failed to take into account that when carbon dioxide (CO2) builds up in the atmosphere, plants actually thrive, become larger, and are able to soak up more CO2. As part of photosynthesis – a natural cycle that helps plants convert sunlight into energy – plants capture CO2 to help them grow and then release oxygen as a waste product. Just from this natural process alone, scientists estimated that living things absorbed as much as 16 percent more of the greenhouse gas than previously thought.

More CO2 would actually help the planet, says Professor William Happer of Princeton University. CO2 can actually be beneficial to an ecosystem rather than a burden to it. Carbon dioxide is a food, it is crucial to the life of plants and humans both.

More From NASA

Martin Mlynczak of NASA Langley Research Center is the is the associate principal investigator for the SABER instrument onboard NASA’s TIMED satellite. SABER monitors infrared emissions from Earth’s upper atmosphere, in particular from carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitric oxide (NO), two substances that play a key role in the energy balance of air hundreds of km above our planet’s surface.

“Carbon dioxide and nitric oxide are natural thermostats,” explains James Russell of Hampton University, SABER’s principal investigator. “When the upper atmosphere (or ‘thermosphere’) heats up, these molecules try as hard as they can to shed that heat back into space. For the three-day period, March 8th through 10th, the thermosphere absorbed 26 billion kWh of energy. Infrared radiation from CO2 and NO, the two most efficient coolants in the thermosphere, re-radiated 95% of that total back into space. The majority of it has been sent back into space by the action of CO2 and NO.”

NASA satellite data from the years 2000 through 2011 show the Earth’s atmosphere is allowing far more heat to be released into space than alarmist computer models have predicted. The study in 2011 indicates far less future global warming will occur than United Nations computer models have predicted, and supports prior studies indicating increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide trap far less heat than alarmists have claimed.”

These findings will dramatically alter the global warming debate exposing yet again that the central premise of alarmist global warming theory that carbon dioxide emissions are warming the planet quickly is wrong. The “NASA satellite data, reported in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, show a ‘huge discrepancy’ between alarmist climate models and real-world facts.”

Carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitric oxide (NO) are two substances playing a key role in the energy balance of air above our planet’s surface tending to cool, not heat.

The new information starkly contradicts the core proposition of the so-called greenhouse gas theory, which claims that more CO2 means more warming for our planet. However, this compelling new NASA data disproves that notion and is a huge embarrassment for NASA’s chief climatologist, Dr. James Hansen and his team over at NASA’s GISS.

Global warming was a huge exaggeration since in reality climate is totally, completely dependent on what the sun is doing to the system. “The sun is the major driver of the earth climate system.” We can see that certain elite circles took an insane chance in their bid for more riches captured in carbon taxes. Spitting into the eye of God (in this case the sun) trying to out smart Mother Nature shows how even the almighty powerful rich ones among us can fall flat on their faces in front of everyone. Well ok not in front of everyone since they are so secretive and hidden but we know they are there and what their real interest is in life.

Descrição: Annual Lower Stratospheric Temperature Anomalies

Stratosphere

The stratosphere is the layer of the atmosphere situated between 10km and 50km above the earth. It is situated directly above the troposphere, the first layer of the atmosphere that is directly responsible for the weather that we receive. The boundary between the stratosphere and the troposphere is known as the tropopause.

The temperature of the stratosphere plays a significant role in the weather. Every winter the stratosphere cools down dramatically as less solar UV radiation is absorbed by the ozone content in the stratosphere. The difference in the temperature between the North Pole and the latitudes further south creates a strong vortex – the wintertime stratospheric polar vortex. The colder the stratosphere, the stronger this vortex becomes.

Ozone depletion is believed to have caused the preponderance of the cooling in the lower stratosphere (around 15–25 km altitude); both ozone depletion and increases in green-house gases are believed to have driven the cooling in the middle and upper stratosphere (around 25–50 km altitude)

The radiative effects of human emissions of ozone-depleting sub-stances and greenhouse gases have driven marked atmospheric cooling at stratospheric altitudes. Ozone depletion is believed to have caused the preponderance of the cooling in the lower stratosphere (around 15–25 km altitude); both ozone depletion and increases in greenhouse gases are believed to have driven the cooling in the middle and upper stratosphere (around 25–50 km altitude).

Plants Love CO2

New research has found that plants can absorb more carbon dioxide than we previously thought. Just from this natural process alone, scientists estimated that living things absorbed as much as 16 percent more of the harmful greenhouse gas than previously thought.

The main issue with CO2 is not global warming its health and life itself. Carbon dioxide like air, water and oxygen is essential for life and health in general and specifically it holds the key to resolving asthma, cancer and many other chronic diseases. Carbon dioxide is an essential constituent of tissue fluids and as such should be maintained at an optimum level in the blood. The gas therefore is needed to supplement various anaesthetic and oxygenation mixtures for use under special conditions such as cardio-pulmonary by-pass surgery and the management of renal dialysis.

Carbon dioxide is a nutrient as well as a product of respiration and energy production in the cells and its lack or deficiency is of itself a starting point for different disturbances in the body.

Dr. Gerald Marsh tells us that five hundred million years ago, carbon dioxide concentrations were over 13 times current levels; and not until about 20 million years ago did carbon dioxide levels drop to a little less than twice what they are today.[1] Since 1750 the concentration in the air has risen from of CO2 278 parts per million (ppm) to more than 380 ppm, making it easier for plants to acquire the CO2 needed for rapid growth. Scientists generally suggest that raised CO2 levels will boost the yields of mainstream crops, such as maize, rice and soy, by about 13 per cent.

Plants survive by extracting CO2 from the airusing magnesium at the center of chlorophyll and sunlight to convert it into proteins and sugars.

Public opinion tends to think of carbon dioxide as a waste product or even a poison. (It is sometimes confused with carbon monoxide, which is a poison). Way back in the 19th century, Zuntz, in Berlin, recognized that carbon dioxide, unlike oxygen, is not carried by haemoglobin. He showed that in the blood, carbon dioxide is combined with bases, chiefly as sodium bicarbonate, which plays a part in acid-alkaline balance. Most of the carbon dioxide is dissolved in the plasma, both in simple solution and that combined with alkali into the bicarbonates.

In medicine, up to 5% carbon dioxide is added to pure oxygen for stimulation of breathing after apnea and to stabilize the O2/CO2 balance in blood.

According to the Verigo-Bohr effect a CO2 deficit caused by deep breathing leads to oxygen starvation in the cells of the body. This state is known as hypoxia and it badly affects the nervous system. Chronic hidden hyperventilation (over-breathing) is very common amongst western populations leading to impaired oxygenation of body tissues. What is driving down the O2 levels is that breathing too fast gets rid of too much CO2.

It is carbon dioxide deficiency that impairs circulation and oxygen delivery to tissues.Carbon dioxide inhibits the production of lactic acid, and lactic acid lowers carbon dioxide’s concentration in a variety of ways.  — Dr. Ray Peat

Climatologist should have to learn thermodynamics. Now that this truth is coming out the alarmists are going to spin it that manmade CO2 is freezing the Earth and they alone can stop it. The past will now repeat.

“.. atmospheric carbon dioxide trap far less heat than alarmists have claimed.”

No gas in our atmosphere can “trap” heat !!! .. that is impossible! .. and furthermore, even if one could “trap” heat, heat cannot pile! .. so even if you were to magically “trap” this heat, it still would not raise the temperature. Adding more 130F coffee to your cup cannot raise the temperature of your coffee above 130F !!!

It never ceases to astonish me that the fundamental concepts of thermodynamics are not understood by most people and they just soak up the human caused climate change like sponges. I see complex arguments, but the case you have made in a few words says all that people need to know.

I note that the links to NASA proclaiming CO2 as a coolant do not work?

Bil, Click on NASA at the beginning of the paragraph, that works and will show you that they did NOT say atmospheric coolant, they said Thermosphere coolant. Massive difference, we are talking about the thermodynamics in the volume around the space station, not the dense atmosphere near the earth’s surface. But what do you expect from a conspiracy website.

BFG, I agree that many NASA websites are involved in the conspracy. But, some of their material is still valid. You have to be careful.

For example, if you learned from some NASA site that the ISS orbits in the thermosphere, then you were misinformed. The ISS orbits well above the stratosphere.

The thermosphere is well above the stratosphere so no inconsistency at all on the NASA website. The interesting key issue is this: If CO2 can act as a coolant in the thermosphere, what changes its behaviour in the troposphere? Thermodynamic arguments / modelling clearly shows CO2 is a coolant in the troposphere. Just one example of my modelling. Placing Venus atmosphere (96.5% CO2 ) into Earths tropospheric lapse rate gives 1-2 deg C cooler lapse rate than earths atmosphere in earths lapse rate. And earths atmosphere into Venus lapse rate gives significantly hotter Venus troposphere.

Marcus the link “carbon dioxide acts as a coolant ” is broken, no page found! I discovered this study about CO2 and methane acting as thermal deflectors in the upper atmosphere a few years ago on NASAs web site then it was taken down. Seems they did it again

Maybe someone inside of NASA is trying to get the truth out but has to fight against the multitudes of mind control enthusiasts.
