PSI Vice Chair to Address Thunderbolts Project Conference

Dr Pierre R Latour, PSI Vice-Chairman and Professional Chemical Process Control Systems Engineer, registered in California and Texas, is an invited speaker at Thunderbolts Project Electric Universe 2014 Conference: ‘All About Evidence,’ in Albuquerque, New Mexico, March 20 – 24, 2014. Thunderbolt ProjectHe will address the group on’ Engineering Earth’s Thermostat with CO2?’ Dr Latour will explain why Earth’s temperature is a chemical process system and will present a review of control system engineering of Earth’s thermostat with anthropogenic CO2. Previously, in 1997 Latour proved the concept would never work in practice because it is an unmeasurable, unobservable and uncontrollable system. In short, CO2 does not affect temperature; temperature affects CO2. There are no greenhouse gases in physics. CO2 is not a pollutant; it is green plant food. Global warming has also stabilized since 1998.

Dr Latour will show his audience that Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, History and Ethics are deployed to identify the barriers to designing the thermostat to control Earth’s atmospheric temperature by adjusting its CO2 input.

    Pierre Latour should also read that linked open challenge to Dr Spencer, because Latour also thinks that the state of thermodynamic equilibrium with maximum entropy is somehow not isentropic, because if it were then it would display an autonomous lapse rate (such as in the Uranus troposphere) and that would negate his luke warm conjecture in which he thinks carbon dioxide plays a warming role. It doesn’t but he hopes it does.

    Furthermore, when radiation from cooler carbon dioxide molecules reaches that 1mm thick “body” which is the combined surface of all oceans (covering 70% of the globe) then that radiation resonates (as Prof Claes Johnson explained) at the boundary of that surface body, and the low frequency (low energy) radiation does not even penetrate at all into that 1mm thick body.

    The resonating process amounts to causing electrons to alternate between two energy levels, the difference in energy being the energy in a photon. But this means another identical photon is immediately re-emitted.

    But temperature depends upon thermal energy, which is related to the mean kinetic energy per molecule. The kinetic energy is, however, stored equally in translational, vibrational and rotational degrees of freedom. The electron energy is not converted to this kinetic energy by these photons which merely cause this resonating. Physicists call the process “pseudo scattering” because it looks like the original incident radiation is just randomly scattered. So that’s another reason why carbon dioxide has no effect via radiation to the surface.

    You cannot gets realistic temperature estimates for Earth’ surface using Stefan-Boltzmann calculations because the effective surface of Earth acts nothing at all like a black or grey body.

    Climate is measured by the temperature 1.5 to 2 metres above the physical surface. The close proximity of air temperatures there to surface temperatures is not primarily due to radiation across the boundary, because most radiation is absorbed at altitudes above 2 metres. The temperatures are close because of conduction and diffusion near the boundary.

    Now, only the very top of the ocean surface (say 1mm depth) affects the temperature of the air at the boundary. So you may as well think of the surface as being only 1mm thick. For the 70% that is ocean, this 1mm thick “body” is obviously almost 100% transparent to solar radiation, whereas a black or grey body by definition does not transmit any radiation. How much hotter would that 1mm layer be if it were black asphalt? If the answer is 20 degrees, say, then all your S-B calculations are out by about 20 degrees.

    Now, go to Venus and they will be out by over 400 degrees. Go to Uranus and you won’t even find any direct solar radiation (or a surface) at the base of its nominal troposphere where it’s hotter than Earth Are you starting to understand the problem?

    Yes “Global warming has also stabilized since 1998” but it will reappear between 2030 and 2060 before 500 years of global cooling starts well beyond any current adult’s lifetime.

    Once again Latour is barking up the wrong tree in even acknowledging that carbon dioxide could have an effect, whether or not its levels follow temperature. No valid physics supports such a contention.

    Radiative forcing is not the primary determinant of planetary surface temperatures. The conduction-like process of diffusion in a planet’s troposphere is.

    That is why Latour was unable to answer correctly how the necessary energy gets into the surface of Venus in order to raise its temperature by five degrees over the course of its 4-month-long day. It has nothing to do with pressure, Pierre, and there is no steady increase in pressure over the 4 months, and no way in which pressure actually creates energy and transfers it into the surface.

    No, the energy must come from the Sun, because, after all, the temperature rises 5 degrees when the Sun shines on any particular location on the Venus equator. But the mere 20W/m^2 of direct solar radiation cannot be the reason for the warming.
