Establishment Arrogance Hinders Planetary Electromagnetic Science
Below is another in the series of articles about the extraordinary science writer Edsel Chromie. Now in retirement this American innovator is candid about the failures of Establishment science to take up his novel ideas about electromagnetism on other planets and impacts on earth’s weather.
Now his inspired ideas are gradually being accepted by leading institutions such as NASA. Here readers can be appalled and enthralled by Chromie’s reminiscences and be mindful of these sage words: “Scientific orthodoxy kills truth.” – Murray Gell-Mann, 1969 Nobel Prize in physics
In one instance Chromie was vilified after a September 16, 1991 article when a member of the Planetary Society, Franz Joseph Schnaubelt wrote to the letters editor of the local Daily Californian newspaper to complain:
“Edsel Chromie’s ‘enlightened’ commentary lacked not only a most rudimentary understanding of science methodology but any high school science student can affirm they have no foundation in fact contained in even the simplest textbooks on astronomy, electricity, magnetism and physics.”
The putdown by the Planetary Society pundit continued:
“The commentary demonstrates a total ignorance of the four fundamental forces in nature as well as the relative strengths of each of these forces. It makes a totally erroneous correlation between the principles of an electric generator and the magnetic fields of the various astronomical bodies. And it does not exhibit a knowledge of the fission and fusion processes taking place in the interior of the stars, or the other substantiated data of the solar system.”
It was 20 years later when sweet vindication came Chromie’s way and Shnaubelt had to eat his words as scientists on the “History” program (August 12, 2010) declared:
“First, Electricity and magnetism are one and the same thing. Second: All solar activity is basically magnetic activity. Third: Magnetic storms are some of the most powerful forces in our solar system and they have been nearly completely overlooked by scientists. And fourth: Solar magnetism. Why is it so deadly and so misunderstood?”
So, today Schnaubelt’s vilification turns out to be a compliment. Against the odds an inspired Chromie had written about science not even evidenced in textbooks of that time. But Chromie is not the only innovator frustrated by the scientific orthodoxy. As Astrophysics Joseph Wang, Ph.D. writes:
“With standard cosmology I can get:
1) Good predictions as to the amount of elements in the universe
2) Good predictions as to the amount of lumpiness in the cosmic background radiation
3) Good predictions as to the distribution of galaxies
With standard cosmology you also get:
A terrible understanding of comets (from the 100+ years old dirty snowball model and unable to stand up to real science observations).
A ridiculous understanding of the solar wind which accelerates as it leaves the sun not to mention the temperature inversion of the Corona.
A questionable understanding of galactic rotation, requiring the invention of Dark matter because of ignoring charged plasma rotations.
A nearly dogmatic insistence on the use of the weakest force (gravity) to explain the most visible effects in the universe.
Chromie continues:
“I have had many similar condescending and insulting remarks from many other professors and scientists over the past 38 years. Now, thankfully, the wider community is moving towards acceptance of some of my other explanations of hitherto unexplained phenomena.”
Edsel further recounts of his experience with Copley Radio News Service’s “Flash News” publication of April 4, 1985. He explains:
“I was involved in a live radio interview with talk show hosts Bob and Betty Sanders at WISN at Milwaukee, Wisconsin regarding comets. The interview progressed to the rings of Saturn. I explained that the rings were also created via a magnetic field stimulating invisible atoms of gases to a glowing, visible state of excitement the same way the coma and tail of a comet is created. We then became involved in a more detailed discussion of the rings of Saturn. At the conclusion of the interview, Betty Sanders said: “Who knows, maybe someday the scientists may name one of the rings Chromie’s ring because were the first one to correctly define the true nature of the rings of Saturn.”
But will Chromie have to wait a little longer for this? Thirty years on and scientists are still trying to figure out how solid particles reflecting sunlight can create the bizarre anomalies of the rings, the geysers and the volcanoes recorded by the Cassini spacecraft.
“Eventually, they will have to come to the conclusion that it is absolutely impossible for these anomalies to be created by solid particles reflecting sunlight.”
Instead, says Chromie, the absolutely only way they can be created is via the strong magnetic field which is similar to our jet stream on Earth and stimulating invisible atoms of gases to a glowing, visible state of excitement. The fact Chromie’s work accords well with proponents of the Electric Universe Theory hasn’t helped his cause up against a closed-minded orthodoxy.
As regular readers will know, Electric Universe theory is an extension of Plasma Cosmology which has been recognized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as a scientifically sound cosmology. The true test of a theory is its ability to predict new findings. Standard cosmology routinely fails where Plasma Cosmology and Electric Universe theory succeed. These are predictions registered in advance and confirmed by NASA’s own probes, at the same time that NASA is surprised. See these confirmed predictions, for example:

Electromagnetism throughout the solar system, once dismissed as wacky when Chromie first advanced the idea, is now becoming mainstream helped by NASA’s pioneering Cassini space mission which has recorded evidence of the energy and the gases necessary to make this concept viable.
But as Chromie bemoans:
“Still not one scientist can explain where the huge volume of particles came from or how they managed to become concentrated in such a thin and immense ring and how they are kept in such a thin profile for hundreds of years. With my concept, the gases are not kept in a thin plane.”
They, say Chromie, can blow in and out of the ring plane at any time. However, only the gases that are in the direct path of the stimulating magnetic field current glow brightly while the gases simply lose their glow as soon as they leave the stimulating current flow.
“This is exactly the way my demonstration with the magnetic field and the fluorescent tube proves in exactly the same conditions. This is not ambiguous but a proven concept verified by a pragmatic demonstration proving every detail.”
Recently, NASA has begun a new series of “NASA’s Unexplained Files”. In the September 13, 2016 program (‘A President’s Close Encounter’) it ran a segment when the Cassini spacecraft first noticed the “geysers of Enceladus”.
The narrator said: “On January 16, 2005 NASA’s billion dollar probe Cassini was on a flyby of Saturn when it captured images of something unusual on the icy moon Enceladus.”
Science writer Jason Major observed: “There are what seem to be bright lights coming from Enceladus’ south pole shining into space.”
The narrator added: “Enormous plumes of a mysterious vapor are coming from the frozen moon’s south pole. They look so like the geothermal eruptions found on Earth that the scientists immediately called them geysers. The plumes are more than 8,000 times larger than any geyser found on our planet. At 32,000 miles per hour Cassini dives right through the geysers, one of 22 sorties through the frozen world.”
Kevin Baines, planetary scientist, asserted: “The geysers are spewing 150 miles into space, which is the distance from San Diego to Los Angeles.”
The glow recorded by Cassini was a huge and towering brilliant radiance unlike any geyser on Earth and never before like anything seen by NASA. Not until six years later did NASA report (April 2011) in ‘Cassini Sees Electric Link with Enceladus’ that the magnetic field lines of the magnetic connection between Saturn and its moon Enceladus are invisible to the naked eye and detected only by the ultraviolet imaging spectrograph and the particle instruments on NASA’s Cassini spacecraft.
In several emails to Dr. Carolyn Porco during 2009 Chromie explained that there were evident inconsistencies in NASA’s explanation of the origin of the ‘icy particles’ claimed to be on view. Chromie suggested then:
“With my concept, I not only am able to explain where the gases and energy originate but offer a detailed explanation of how this anomaly can be assimilated. I do not understand how you can be defensive of a concept that has failed to provide a complete and sensible explanation after four years of study by many credible scientists.”
In an email reply dated November 20, 2009 Dr. Porco asserted:
“In the images of the jets, you are seeing fine solid particles, not atoms or molecules. And we know that most of the material does indeed fall back to the surface. It is probably the cause for the smooth-looking ramparts of the cracks from which the jets issue. Also, we think the vents probably close off and open down the crack elsewhere, explaining why there is no local distinct ‘residue’. “
Lo and behold, it was two years after Dr. Porco’s dogmatic claims about what was actually being observed the Cassini spacecraft’s finely tuned detectors were able to vindicate Chromie’s alternative hypothesis.
Chromie laments:
“I had previously offered to Dr. Porco the demonstration I use to stimulate atoms of invisible gases to a glowing, visible state of excitement. This was by rubbing an ordinary plastic store bag briskly for ten seconds with your bare hand and then moving the magnetic field surrounding the static electricity charge alongside an unplugged fluorescent tube in a dark room. This created the very same glow as the “geysers”. It is also why she erroneously referred to “fine solid particles, not atoms or molecules.”
Now it is another five years since the electric link was discovered and eleven years since the plumes of Enceladus were first detected by the Cassini spacecraft. Scientists are still trying to figure out how the heat can possibly be created by the decay of radioactive elements or the gravity flexing caused by the gravity of Saturn.
“Meanwhile, they completely ignore the immense magnetic field of Saturn that should be evident because 700 Earth’s can fit inside of Saturn and the reported lightning on Saturn is reported to be 10,000 times more intense than the lightning on Earth,” adds Edsel.
To Chromie, NASA research scientists are still completely ignoring the magnetic field that was very clearly detected by Cassini.
“The fact is that we have been creating bright lights for decades by simply passing a magnetic field current through the sodium in our highway lamps. We also do it by passing a magnetic field current through the invisible atoms of gases in the fluorescent tubes to light up our homes for decades. After eleven years you would think they should recognize that they will never be able to determine how the geysers could possibly be created by heat or water ice creating water geysers reflecting sunlight.”
In short, establishment scientist Dr. Porco has failed to answer the questions when Chromie’s very simple explanations do the job and accord neatly with the very same energy and gas phenomena detected and measured by the Voyager and Pioneer spacecraft 36 years ago on their approach to Saturn (1980).
